A wildlife festival in the UK had to issue an unusual clarification after some people apparently misunderstood exactly what kind of event it was.

The Cumbria Nature Festival posted a message on Facebook to make it clear that it is a festival for naturalists — people interested in wildlife and conservation — and not naturists, which refers to nudist communities.

According to organizers, the clarification came after they received inquiries that suggested some attendees may have thought the event was a nudist gathering.

In the Facebook post, organizers wrote that the festival is “primarily aimed at NATURALISTS… not NATURISTS,” adding that while they aim to be inclusive, the event is meant for wildlife enthusiasts.

They also included a polite but very necessary reminder:

“Please do dress appropriately.”

Festival organizers even offered full refunds to anyone who may have purchased tickets by mistake.

The confusion appears to stem from the similarity between the words naturalist and naturist, which are separated by only one letter — and, apparently, a very different packing list.

Sam Griffin, a member of the festival’s organizing committee, later told the BBC that the issue came down to a misunderstanding. He said no refunds were ultimately needed, suggesting the clarification was enough to prevent any awkward arrivals.

The Cumbria Nature Festival is scheduled to run from May 8 through May 10.
