Pennsylvania Man Shot After Dog Allegedly Triggers Shotgun
It’s a cautionary tale to not be a dingus with your firearms and ALWAYS make sure they are handled safely.
A Pennsylvania man is recovering after a shooting incident that authorities say involved his own dog.
According to the Shillington Police Department, officers responded around 11:13 p.m. Tuesday to reports of a shooting involving a 53-year-old man who had been struck in the back.
While officers were en route, dispatchers relayed unusual information from the scene: the man’s dog may have been responsible for firing the weapon.
When police arrived, they found the man conscious on the floor with a gunshot wound to his lower back.
Investigators say the man told them he had been cleaning a shotgun and placed it on his bed. He then sat down, and shortly after, one of his dogs jumped onto the bed.
According to police, the dog’s movement caused the firearm to discharge, firing a round into the man’s back.
At the time of the incident, only the victim and his son were inside the home, along with multiple dogs. Authorities said the son was not in the room when the gun went off.
Emergency responders transported the man to a local hospital, where he underwent immediate surgery. Officials say he may require additional procedures, though the full extent of his injuries has not been released.
Police believe the shooting was accidental but say the investigation remains ongoing.
Have they questioned the neighborhood cats? Seems a lot more like something they would do…
