CORSICANA, Texas – Four people were killed, including a child, and three others were wounded after a gunman opened fire in an east-central city early Saturday, authorities said.
Police in Corsicana said the shooter also fatally shot himself, KWTX reported.
Update 10:40 p.m. EST Feb. 5: Police in Corsicana, Texas, identified the suspected gunman late Saturday as Kevin Milazzo, 41, whom they found in his truck fatally wounded from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, WFAA reported.
The first two victims in the shooting spree encountered by authorities have been identified as 61-year-old Connie Mimms and 68-year-old William Mimms, Milazzo’s mother and stepfather, the Corsicana Police Department confirmed in a news release.
The two victims found at a separate location later Saturday morning have been identified as 21-year-old Joshua Milazzo, the suspect’s son, and 4-year-old Hunter Freeman, the son of the younger Milazzo’s former girlfriend, WFAA reported.
Three other people were wounded in the shootings, including two listed in critical condition who were found at the scene of the first shooting and an adult woman found at the scene of the second shooting suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Their names have not been released publicly.
Original report: The shooting spread across two cities, according to the Corsicana Daily Sun. Corsicana police Chief Robert Johnson told the newspaper that one shooting was reported in the city shortly after midnight. A short time later another shooting was reported in Frost, located 20 miles west of Corsicana, the Daily Sun reported.
Officers in Corsicana found a man and a woman fatally shot inside a home, KWTX reported.
Officers said they also found two gunshot victims who were taken to a Dallas-area trauma center in critical condition, WFAA-TV reported.
A short time later, deputies with the Navarro County Sheriff’s Office discovered the second shooting in Frost, the Daily Sun reported. They found the bodies of an adult male and a child, KWTX reported. A third victim, a woman, was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the television station reported. She was taken to a Dallas-area trauma center; her condition was unknown.
Johnson said the suspect’s vehicle was found using GPS, and when they approached it they found him inside with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head, the Daily Sun reported. The man, whose name has not been released, died at a hospital, according to the newspaper.
According to police, the victims who died are believed to be family members of the gunman, WFAA reported. Their names are being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin, according to the television station.
