Florida Man Steals $4K in Meat, Dumps It After Girlfriend Shocker
Breakups are hard. Some people cry. Some people vent to friends.
And according to Florida authorities, one man allegedly chose grand-scale meat theft, followed by emotional disposal.
A 30-year-old Cuban national from Jacksonville, Heannys O. Alvarez Reyna, is accused of stealing nearly $4,000 worth of meat from two Publix grocery stores in Flagler County — only to later throw most of it away after a relationship shock.
According to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Reyna was caught on surveillance video on January 5 stealing $1,574.86 worth of beef and lamb from the Belle Terre Crossings Publix around 7:43 p.m.
Less than 20 minutes later, deputies say he struck again — this time at the Island Walk at Palm Coast Publix — where he allegedly stole $2,084 worth of pork, top sirloin, brisket, tenderloin, along with personal care products.
Investigators say Reyna was identified as the suspect in both thefts.
After the alleged stealing spree, authorities say Reyna drove to his girlfriend’s home — where he found her cooking with another man. Upset by the discovery, police say Reyna threw away most of the stolen meat.
So yes — felony theft, emotional devastation, and absolutely no barbecue.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly did not mince words in a statement shared on social media, saying:
“This wasn’t just a case of someone trying to ‘meat’ their budget. This was a calculated, ‘high-steaks operation’ that left two stores with significant losses.”
Staly added:
“While this suspect’s selection was choice, his method wasn’t kosher… and by now he’s found out that the Green Roof Inn does not serve premium meats.”
Reyna was arrested for felony retail theft and transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, where he is being held on a $5,000 bond, along with a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, authorities said.
As Sheriff Staly put it:
“His relationship may have been past its prime, but stealing isn’t the way to cure what ails you. If you steal from our stores, we will catch you and you will ‘meat’ the consequences.”
