Florida Dingus Faces Escape Charge After Porta-Potty Encounter
Most people treat a porta-potty like a last resort.
One Florida dingus apparently saw it as an opportunity.
A 35-year-old inmate at the Indian River County Jail is facing a new felony charge after authorities say he slipped away from a work assignment during a charity barbecue to have “relations” inside a portable toilet.

According to the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office, Hartley Elliot Sanchez was working as a jail trustee at the annual barbecue fundraiser last Wednesday in Vero Beach, Florida. Trustees are low-level inmates allowed to assist with tasks like serving food during the event.
Investigators say Sanchez abandoned his post and was later seen on surveillance video near a row of porta-potties.
According to the arrest report, Sanchez was seen talking with two women near the portable toilets. One of the women went inside a porta-potty, and after checking to make sure no one was watching, Sanchez followed her in.
The two later came out separately.
Deputies later identified the woman as a former inmate by matching surveillance footage to booking photos.
When questioned, Sanchez reportedly admitted to the encounter.
The woman is not facing charges, but Sanchez now faces a much more serious legal problem.
At the time, he was already in jail awaiting trial on theft and drug possession charges. Now, under Florida law, authorities have added a charge of prisoner escape or attempted escape.
That charge may sound dramatic for a brief disappearance, but under state law, even stepping away from an assigned work area while in custody can qualify as an escape attempt.
The event Sanchez wandered away from was a fundraiser benefiting the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, a nonprofit that helps at-risk children across the state.
So yes — it was a charity barbecue.
And now it’s also a felony case. What a dingus. And HER TOO! Disgusting dinguses.
