Oh Florida, you remain in the lead for Dingus per capita.

Some crimes are ambitious.
Some are stupid…
And some involve trying to steal a septic tank with a Toyota Corolla.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a Florida man was arrested after making two separate attempts to steal a septic tank from a construction site in Dunnellon.

The incident happened in the 21600 block of West Highway 40, where deputies responded to a reported theft.

Attempt No. 1: The Corolla Plan

Surveillance footage posted by the sheriff’s office shows Alfio Nocifora trying to steal a septic tank using a Toyota Corolla.

Authorities say the plan “went completely down the drain” when Nocifora was unable to maneuver the tank onto the car.

Video shows him repeatedly pushing and lifting the septic tank before giving up when a Jeep Cherokee drove past the scene. At that point, he got into the Corolla and left the tank behind.

Attempt No. 2: The U-Haul Upgrade

According to investigators, Nocifora returned to the construction site the next day, this time with a rented U-Haul truck.

That second attempt was more successful.

Deputies say he loaded the septic tank onto a ramp and into the truck. Authorities also say he stole approximately $2,500 worth of electrical pipe from the site.

Investigators noted that Nocifora had covered the truck’s license plate and U-Haul identification number with tape.

OH, and there’s video:

Arrest and Charges

Despite the effort to hide the vehicle, a detective was able to identify Nocifora.

He was later arrested in Citrus County.

Authorities say he now faces the following charges:

  • Grand theft
  • Unlawful use of a two-way device
  • Intentionally obscuring a license plate during the commission of a crime

Oh, Florida. Never change. Keep the Dingus vibe going strong.
