Florida Dingus Caught on Paddleboards After River Escape
Florida Dingus Caught by Police on Paddleboards After River Escape
A Florida man’s attempt to escape law enforcement took an unexpected turn… and ended with a paddleboard pursuit.
According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested 28-year-old Chase Cruz after he tried to flee by jumping into the Halifax River.
Escape Plan Goes Off Course
Authorities say Cruz attempted to run from law enforcement before entering the water in an effort to get away.
Instead of calling off the pursuit, a Volusia Sheriff’s Office deputy and a Daytona Beach Shores police officer grabbed paddleboards and followed him into the river.
Yes — the chase continued on the water.
Paddleboards vs. Suspect
Using paddleboards, the officers were able to track Cruz in the river and bring him back to shore, effectively ending the attempted escape. Once back on land, Cruz was taken into custody without further incident.
Charges Filed
After being apprehended, Cruz was charged with:
Loitering and prowling
Resisting arrest
Not Your Typical Getaway
