Chinese Couple Settles Housework at Wedding Wrestling Match
A newlywed couple in China decided there was only one fair way to determine who would handle the housework in their marriage.
They settled it in a wrestling ring.
The unusual wedding took place in Zunyi, located in China’s Guizhou Province, where professional wrestler He Yinsheng and his bride transformed their reception into a live wrestling event.
Instead of a traditional stage, the couple set up a full wrestling ring inside the hotel. A giant screen displayed a dramatic “Groom vs. Bride” poster as guests looked on.
The couple each led teams in a best-of-three wrestling competition.
The stakes were simple: whoever lost would be responsible for the household chores.
Videos from the event show body slams, grappling, and plenty of theatrical flair as nearly 300 guests watched the action.
For the final match, the bride and groom entered the ring themselves.
The bride quickly took control, avoiding her husband’s moves before throwing him to the mat with a shoulder toss.
The referee declared her the winner, assigning housework duties to the groom.
He later admitted the result was planned from the beginning.
“Of course I had to lose in the end,” he said. “I could not let her do the housework.”
The groom said the idea came about while planning the wedding and looking for ways to reduce costs. Rather than hiring singers or dancers, he chose to put on a wrestling show instead.
Both sets of parents reportedly said they didn’t fully understand the concept but respected the couple’s decision.
The groom said he hopes the event also helps introduce more people to professional wrestling, which remains a niche form of entertainment in China.
