Interim Pittsburgh Public Schools superintendent Wayne Walters said Wednesday that Marquis was well-liked by students and school staff members, according to WPXI.

“Today was nothing short of a tragedy,” he said. “I stand with the leaders of the school. As a former principal, I know (that) just the possibility of an incident like (what happened) today is something that keeps us up at night.”
